So here we are again.
Eight and a half after I began it, my show lays down two bills. Part of me can’t believe I’ve posted so many episodes…part of me wishes he’d posted more. Gotta the love the push-and-pull of podcasting life. Some days you wonder where your next episode will come from, other days you want to record for the third time in four days.
Marking this occasion felt a bit more challenging that marking occasions past. On the one hand, I knew I wanted to do something special, but on the other hand I also didn’t want to repeat myself. It’s not easy to keep mixing it up when you’ve said “Welcome to Wherever You Are” over two hundred times! Happily though, the universe provided a solution, and it’s one I couldn’t be more thrilled to have been handed.
The occasion was a bit more intimate than the number might demand, but I’m quite happy with that. For some time now, I have made my birthday a small and personal affair, and that has suited me perfectly. Some see occasion as a reason to celebrate: I am growing deeper and deeper in love with calling it a moment to reflect.
In the name of reflection, I hit the road and brought together a small table of guests. I asked them all – in the name of one of my cinema-loving heroes – to tell stories about their film and empathy. I wasn’t sure where the conversations would go, or even if the question would spark much conversation. Happily though, the results are wonderful and warm in a way that befits 200.
The people you hear on this show are but a few of the wonderful people in The UK and around the world my love of film has brought into my orbit over the years. I’m a lucky person to call them my friends…and in a perfect world, I could have stretched my stay longer to visit them all and sit down with them all. Perhaps for 300.
But enough dreaming – two centuries await. It’s not a terribly long episode, but every guest gets their own chapter stop…so don’t be afraid to pause, skip, and shuffle around.
If this is the first time you’ve tuned in, or the two hundredth, thank you so much for supporting what I do.
