I have turned on my podcasting microphone somewhere around 150 times since mid-November of 2009. In all of those times – not to mention the times I have done guest spots on other people’s podcasts – I have never once done what I did for the recording of Matineecast 109. You see dear listeners, with a particularly nasty seventeen hour time difference between Eastern Canada and New Zealand, recording this episode required me to wake up and roll tape at five am yesterday. We finished recording shortly before seven.

I recorded an entire episode of the show and the sun still hadn’t risen yet!!

Hence, in the early-going of this episode, you might hear a touch of grogginess in my voice…though that dissipates pretty quick as I played Chatty Cathy for this episode and seldom let my guest get a word in edgewise. (Apologies for that Miss Taylor).

But please do give a listen , as I am joined by one of my favorite people in the whole wide world, and a person who I don’t get to talk to enough on-mic. Fittingly, we mark the Sunday morning discussion by having a biblical discussion or two.

  1. Great show, I love hearing Stevee’s amazing accent on the few podcasts she’s doing. I have to admit I was one of the people you were mimicking at the beginning, Ryan, I really had no interest in Noah apart from the fact that Arronofsky, Logan Lerman and Emma Watson were involved. But you two did a wonderful job at selling me this movie and now I just really want to see it for myself. I’m not expecting perfection but at least I’m expecting *something*! Also, I will try to check out Vigil some time, however I think Ben-Hur is a much bigger blind spot that I should probably fix before that. I have in fact seen Spartacus when I marathoned Stanley Kubrick and I’m kind of expecting Noah to be like that – a good, solid movie that I just don’t *love* from a director I absolutely admire.

    Speaking of bare-chested men drenched in sweat… sexiest movie I’ve seen? Huh, it is a hard question but I keep coming back to The Dreamers. It’s probably a bit disgusting in places, as it has a semi-incestuous relationship going on but hey, we live in the time of Game of Thrones right? It stars three of the most attractive people in the world and them imitating famous film scenes is the cherry on top. I just can’t watch that movie without getting turned on. Was that too much information?

    1. It’s hard for me to believe sometimes how long I’ve known Stevee, sometimes it feels like I’ve known her for half her life! Full disclosure – there’s nothing I love more about podcasting than hearing the accents that come and go through my show (yours included!).

      Sorta makes me wonder how my own comes across…not nearly as charming, I’d imagine.

    2. WHAT? You have the best podcasting voice ever. When my sister listened in to our show with you she was like “You know, podcasting just sounds more professional with a voice and an accent like that. Not that your podcast is bad…” but she was right!
      Yes, Stevee is a great blogger… I sort of feel connected to her to because we started blogging around the same time and we’re about the same age. But she’s so much better at it than me 😉

  2. Lol, I’m so predictable. But Fincher IS God, definitely.

    I really liked the movie. I even liked the part both of you weren’t that keen on, though I admit that it didn’t gel together with the rest of the film so well.
    Re: Russell Crowe- Stevee is soooo my blogging soulsista! I can’t stand him too. But then again, he didn’t make me want puke in this so that’s good.
    I really liked Emma Watson and Jennifer Connelly. I suppose the melodrama comes with the epic scale.
    I didn’t like the Watchers at the beginning but I liked the concept and I really liked what happens with them.

    1. Oh and sexiest movie ever is Sex, Lies and Videotape. That is one hot movie. And James Spader, man. Even with that hair, he was totally doing it for me.

  3. Is my accent really that great? Hahaha. Anyways, it is scary how long I’ve been in the blogosphere – almost 5 five years – but hey, I’m not that young anymore! By the time I go to Canada, I’ll be 20, which is pretty scary. And Mette, I’m not better at blogging than you or anyone! I actually need to write a post one of these days because I haven’t done one of those in ages.

    Also, Ryan, one of my friends was listening to the podcast and they said you have a great voice haha. All the other friends that listened to it (apparently this was a hall activity while I was at work) were hung up on the part I said about engineering haha.

      I’m getting needled from all sides for my comment about scientists. That might have to be addressed off the top of Episode 110.

    2. If it makes you feel any better, one of the engineering guys on my floor loves movies about 55% as much as me and he’s now my designated person to go to the cinemas with…so engineers aren’t half bad.
