12 Replies to “Days of The Week (Films Watched August 30 – September 19)

  1. Oh man, I need to watch The Commitments already. Okay, I promise to watch it before the next Days of the Week.
Hunger is one of those movies that in spite of liking a lot, I can never rewatch. I was so horrified by the last part.
I need to start my Fincher rewatching. I may finally watch Aliens 3.

Firsts: Edge of Tomorrow– SO much fun! I need to get a poster of Emily Blunt in this to inspire me into getting fit.
God Help the Girl– I really liked it though it did feel like an extended music video at times.
Night Moves– I liked what it was trying to show, but, so slow.
    Begin Again– Awwww. Cute.
Greenberg– I thought it was pretty great. Really good performances.
Beau Travail– The more I think about it, the better it becomes.
The Class– So good! Very engaging and raw and human.
Maps to the Stars– It was fucked up but I liked it 😛
Great Expectations– The David Lean one. For class. It was nice.
The Rover– I did not think Robert Pattinson had this in him. A pretty good film even though it sort of falters towards the end.
Obvious Child– LOVE! Adorable but realistic. It hit me right in the feels.
Aguirre– Blind spot entry. Err, what to write?

    1. OK – If I get to the opening night of GONE GIRL and I haven’t finally watched ALIEN 3, you have my permission to call me a failure on every social media platform you can find.

Pardon the shameless plug, but I vote you go back into the summer and listen to the OBVIOUS CHILD episode of The Matineecast. Kate an I really had a great time digging into that movie.

  2. First of all I would like to say that I am extremely jealous of you that you got to see so many films and that you get to go to TIFF every year. I especially want to see Princess Kaguya and The Prophet because I am a big fan of animation (not CGI, I’m not saying it’s bad, but it’s not special). And all that positive talk about Top Five is very surprising. I heard it’s very very funny. I’m joking, of course, about the jealousy. It’s great that you get to go and share with us your opinions. But I do hope to get to have that experience sometime.

I am too preparing for the Gone Girl release. This month I’ve watched Panic Room for the first time and rewatched Zodiac and Se7en last month. Will check The Game soon, the only Fincher film I haven’t seen yet.

    Since September 1st I’ve watched:
May (2002) – A twisted tale of loneliness. I guess it’s a horror film, it’s very unusual. I liked it.
The Longest Week – A rip-off of Wes Anderson films. I did a review on my blog.
Serial Mom – A black comedy with Kathleen Turner. It’s supposedly a satire. Not a fan of the film. Found it too silly, but the lead actress looks like she’s having fun.
The Wrestler – Pretty great performance from Mickey Rourke.
Panic Room – It’s alright, but so far it’s my least favorite of Fincher’s films.
    The Trip – Quite funny.
Charly – I’ve been watching The Twilight Zone and there are two episodes with the actor Cliff Robertson which led me to see this film. He won an Oscar for this role. It’s a great performance, but the film has many flaws.
The Fabulous Baker Boys – Liked the actors a lot especially Jeff Bridges and Michelle Pfeiffer. It’s not a noir film, but it’s very inspired from that genre when it comes to the characters.

As I’ve said before I watched many episodes of the original Twilight Zone which has many great ones. I also started Breaking Bad. Just finished season 4. I can’t wait to see how it ends.

Also, I’ve moved from Blogger to WordPress in case you want to check out the new blog. No pressure.
Keep up the good work! And sorry for the long message.

    1. Never apologize for long comments! With the embrace of platforms like Twitter and Facebook, it seems like old-school commenting is going the way of the dodo. If I ever need a reminder, I can just look at how many comments my posts used to get! And your new site looks SPIFFY!! My bookmarks have been updated, so thanks for the reminder.

Not sure where in the world you are, but if you do consider coming to TIFF one year – even if it’s just coming in for a long weekend to cram in several screenings, drop me a note. I’d happily walk you through the process.

Your watchlist reminds me that it’s high time I watched both Serial Mom and Baker Boys. Been putting both of them off WAY too long.

damn…that’s becoming a trend with this post!

      1. I’m from Romania, not very far away from Bucharest.
And about TIFF, I don’t see myself coming all the way to Toronto any time soon, but thanks for the offering. Anyway, who knows what will happen? And thanks for the compliments for my blog.
        Keep up the good work!
