I don’t know why this never occurred to me until now, but this summer we’ll be watching something pretty cool unfold.
Marvel Studios went off on their own in the summer of 2008 when they released IRON MAN, THE HULK, and ultimately began the run-up to THE AVENGERS (getting bought by Disney mid-way through all of that). Interestingly, where Marvel characters are concerned, the universe is split into three pieces…with some characters belonging to Disney, some to Sony, and some belonging to Fox.
But here’s the thing: Ever since that summer of 2008, we’ve never been given films from all three “worlds” in one year…let alone in one summer. That’s sort of why I’m looking forward to the next few months. Despite fighting feelings of “superhero fatigue”, one can’t help but wonder what it’ll feel like to take a lap around the Marvel Universe thanks to THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 dropping, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY dropping (with CAP 2 to come before it), and this next chapter of X-MEN nestled in the middle.
I think I’m really wondering if it’s pie-in-the-sky to hope these studios someday get together and make “Civil War”.
The previous trailers for the sequel didn’t make me very excited, but I almost have no words for this trailer. It looks incredible, and I’m so happy that the director of X-Men: First Class hung onto direct this one. This may be the blockbuster not to miss this summer! Thanks for sharing!
Actually, Bryan Singer is directing this one as he did the first 2 films. Still, I’m stoked to see this.
Steven’s right Katy – Matt Vaughn bailed out after FIRST CLASS (or might have been fired, I can’t recall). Crazy thing though, the film he’s working on instead really doesn’t strike me as the sort of thing “From The Director of FIRST CLASS and LAYER CAKE”
