Here we go again. A whole new ballgame…a completely blank page.
Any bets on what happens to me this year? Another five hundred? More? Less? At the moment I have a pile of leftover year-end screeners to work through, along with a pile of Christmas gifts and a continually-filling PVR.
I’ll keep this brief since I’m just finishing one busy stretch and about to begin another. However, to the question of just how much I’ll watch, I can only say this:
As long as I keep enjoying ’em, I’ll keep watching em.
Here’s The Week at Hand…
Blu-Rays/DVD’s I’ve Never Seen
THE BUTLER – I’ll have more to say about this in the coming days
Blu-Rays/DVD’s I’ve Watched Before
RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK – So, guess what I decided to do with my New Year’s Day?
INDIANA JONES AND THE TEMPLE OF DOOM – I’ll give you a clue: I’m still not nuts about this movie.
INDIANA JONES AND THE LAST CRUSADE – Then there’s this, which is as awesome as the first.
INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL – And this, which is badly flawed, but about on a par with TEMPLE.
AMERICAN PSYCHO – For podcasting purposes. I now feel an urge to listen to Phil Collins.
I WATCHED RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK ON NEW YEAR TOO! It was supposed to be my midnight movie but then I partied too hard and yeahhhh……
We have like the same views on Indiana Jones, though my favourite is Last Crusade.
Firsts: 12 Years A Slave– I did really like it, but I can never love a Steve McQueen film. They’re very good but they always leave me a bit cold. But I did cry at the end.
<The Grandmaster– So gorgeous but it was a bit all over the place and it felt much longer than it was.
Rewatched: Raiders of the Lost Ark– Had to show my friend the all-man beauty of young Harrison Ford but I don’t think she liked the movie much 🙁 She hated Marion 🙁 🙁
The World’s End– My brother was watching so I decided to join in. This film keeps getting better and better for me. And Simon Pegg is quite high in my favourite performances list.
“…but then I partied too hard…”
I’m getting images of Spring Breakers and/or Bling Ring in my head.
Which edit of The Grandmaster did you watch? The American cut is 90 – 100 minutes, the Chinese cut is over 2 hours.
And all I can think of is Bridget Jones’s Diary but with four people.
I’m not that cool, Ryan 😛
I sometimes wonder what image of myself do I project across the blogosphere…
I saw the Chinese cut.
Part of me *is* curious to see the American cut now – get an idea of what was left on the cutting room floor.
And you’re cooler than me, so…
Am I the only person that’s not a huge huge fan of Indiana Jones? I’m getting the feeling that I should add them to my re-watch list of this year 🙂
The only things I watched since New Year are tv shows: the latest episode of Sherlock (which I have no words for yet) and Blackpool (a very unique musical-esque mini-serial).
Had a good time watching Sherlock myself! Though it’s gonna be hard getting back into a show, only to kiss it goodbye two weeks later.
Needling through some other shows too – finally working on Friday Night Lights as we speak.
Hopefully tonight, I do The Weight of Water which will be my first first-timer of the year as I spent the last few days doing re-watches in Being John Malkovich, Adaptation, and Cloud Atlas.
I was only so-so on WEIGHT when I watched it a few years back. By the looks of it, we’re of the same mind.
On New Year’s Day, I watched TANGLED with Elise, my four-year-old. She loves it, but I’ve never sat down to watch it beyond a few minutes. I really liked it, a lot more than I expected. Can’t remember any of the songs, but enjoyed the look and energy of it.
That’s it so far, but I have plenty on the way…
Between Tangled, Frozen, and Ralph, Disney seems to have finally got themselves on a bit of a roll, no?
I haven’t seen Frozen yet, but you may be right based on what I’m hearing. If nothing else, their popularity is definitely up there.
Didn’t we just do this? 🙂
The year is young, I’ve only seen one movie so far:
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug
Yeah, yeah, I know. Just trying to get the site back on-schedule.
Well if Smaug is where you’ve started, your 2014 can only get better. (zing!)
What a great way to start New Year w/ RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK! I actually rewatched Superman Returns though I skipped the last part w/ Supes’ kid, it’d have been a far better film if they didn’t go that route.
Btw, I’ve posted my BlindSpot 2014 list last week, very excited to take part in that.
I saw your selections and mused to myself that you’re in for an interesting year. Best of luck to ya (and likewise, to us all!). Remember that if you miss/skip a month or two, you can always get back on the horse.
Sorta curious how many will stick with it – the list of feeds I created to look for posts stretches across twenty sites!
I rewatched DRINKING BUDDIES at the cinema which was just such a fun (and quality way) to kick of the year visiting the picture houses. I also watched THE MASTER on Blu-ray for the first time and it was just about the most beautiful looking film ever.
Drinking Buddies is one of my more amusing encounters of the year. I decided to watch it on-demand one weekend where I didn’t have a review to watch. Not a bad deal, five bucks and I can watch it from the comfort of my couch.
Three days later, I open my mailbox, and the studio that put it out there had sent me a DVD screener to watch for free. Gotta love it.
I think I’m overdue for a rewatch of THE MASTER – thanks for reminding me.
