There was a lot of homework to do this week, my friends. Podcasts of my own, podcasts for other people, not to mention a blindspot still to be consumed this evening.
It led to a lot of watching-with-purpose. Lord knows I’m not opposed to such things, but sometimes it feels a lot less fun when there are two or three dozen classics clogging up one’s PVR…or a small cluster of blu-rays like GONE GIRL and INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS that one feels like digging into.
Anyone else ever struggle with that? Putting aside things you WANT to watch in light of things you NEED to watch?
No? Just me?
Here’s the week at hand…
Screenings
AMERICAN SNIPER – It grosses me out that this film became so popular.
A MOST VIOLENT YEAR – I’ll have much to say about this in the week ahead.
Streaming/Blu-Rays/DVD’s I’ve Never Seen
4 LITTLE GIRLS – After SELMA, it felt like my tardiness in catching up with this was especially bad.
THE FRIENDS OF EDDIE COYLE – Anyone wanna go to a hockey game with me?
AIN’T THEM BODIES SAINTS – Somewhat “Faux Mallick”…but so damned pretty.
Streaming/Blu-Rays/DVD’s I’ve Seen Before
THE LIFE AQUATIC with STEVE ZISSOU – …….”Revenge.”
THE LAST PICTURE SHOW – Quickly becoming one of my favorite Black & white films.
LET THE RIGHT ONE IN – It had been too long in between watches.
ALL THE PREDIDENT’S MEN – Can you guess…
ROCKY – …which year I’m discussing…
NETWORK – …on my next Dew Over?
First-Timers: At the Circus, Total Balalaika Show, my Blind Spot assignment in The General, The Love Punch, Go West, Blended, Sherlock Jr., and earlier today, Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Re-Watches: The Lego Movie.
I struggle with the “Want to watch” and the “Need to watch” constantly, only it’s all of my own doing. Way back when I was able to watch many more movies a week, I started all these lengthy complete filmography series and now I’m kinda locked in for the long haul. At least they’re all series that I enjoy doing, but I look forward to whenever I’m able to just watch whatever I want again. I do squeeze in extra films occasionally.
All first-time this week:
A Thousand Year-Old Fox – 1969 S. Korean kinda-horror film from a director that was later kidnapped in 1978 by Kim Jong-Il to bolster the N. Korean film industry. He made a Communist Kaiju movie called Pulgasari, and a few others, before being released in 1986.
Decadent Evil – as if it’s not apparent, a low-budget horror movie. It was fairly fun.
Hey Ryan, in response to your question, yes I do struggle w/ putting aside things you WANT to watch in light of things you NEED to watch! The BlindSpot thing is one example though I don’t mind it, it’s just I need to do better in my time management 😀
I still haven’t seen American Sniper, not sure I want to, to be honest. Curious to hear what you think of A MOST VIOLENT YEAR, I love the cast in that one.
