It was curious for me to see this trailer drop this week.

Immediately, talk seemed to turn to people’s Oscar chances…Redmayne to repeat? Vikander in play? Hooper adding to his mantle?

What I don’t understand is how this hoopla kicks into high gear on first glance…before the film has played for a single audience…and before football season has even started.

I mean, this time last year was anybody calling BIRDMAN for the win? The year before that, who had Cuaron for Best Director? Remember when everybody went into September thinking Bullock would win for THE BLIND SIDE?

Me neither.

What I’m saying is, I guess I wish we could let the game begin before we start talking about how many goals our favorite players are going to score.
