So just before I stop rambling about the Toronto International Film Fest for another year, I thought I’d backtrack and post the trailer for one of the movies I did want to see…but couldn’t schedule in.
From the creator of BRICK, I give you Mark Ruffalo and Adrian Brody looking to pull a long con on Rachel Weisz. Looks like fun, no?
Well, yes and no…
Boy, I really wanted to like this. And there are some good parts (mostly with Weisz and Kikuchi), but it just never really worked for me. Others loved it though…
I must say I am a bit curious to see it again.
A good friend of mine who came to much of the fest with me actually loved it, so now with your slight ‘thumbs down” I have mixed reactions.
What to think?
I have to wonder though Bob, if you didn’t dig it as a movie in general or as a TIFF selection.
Good question Ryan…I think I mean it as a movie in general. I was psyched to see it (as I loved Brick) and the added benefit of it being the World Premiere was, I have to admit, pretty cool. I wish Rachel Weisz had got a chance to speak more – I would’ve asked her a question, but it would’ve come out as “Uh, gee your purty…heh, heh”.
I think I just had high expectations and it didn’t meet them. There’s a lot to like about the film, but nothing surprised me as much as I hoped it would.
What the hell do I know though – I think “Ocean’s Twelve” is a brillant art film.
I loved Brick. Hopefully this one is just as good.
