This will be a weird one. I’m about to post a video clip which I have no intention of watching…but felt I should post it for anyone who might indeed be interested.
So back in 2003 we were given LOST IN TRANSLATION. It’s a love it-or-hate it film, with the role of a lifetime for Bill Murray. The film is well written, but much of what makes the story so good are the many moments where little or nothing is said. The way a connection is show by a lean on the shoulder. Or the way a sad smile takes the place of a long, drawn out goodbye. For me though, nothing beats a moment that occurs in the final scene. When Bill Murray pulls Scarlett Johansson aside on the street…gives her a hug…and whispers something in her ear.
What does he whisper? We have no idea. Brilliant.
Well it was only a matter of time, and I’m kinda surprised it took four years. If you do wish to know what he says, this video link will tell you. It was also posted on Entertainment Weekly and Rotten Tomatoes, and I understand it might change the context of things. So watch if you dare, feel free to leave a non-specific comment if you wish, but don’t say I didn’t warn you.
Opening This Week…
SWEENEY TODD… (The next CHICAGO? Or the next PHANTOM?)
WALK HARD… (96 glorious minutes of Cox)
CHARLIE WILSON’S WAR… (I’m hearing Phil steals the show)
P.S. I LOVE YOU… (Do you love me? Check yes or no)
NATIONAL TREASURE: BOOK OF SECRETS… (Secret Number One: How this franchise was greenlit)
THE SAVAGES… (An indie darling getting lots of love)
I might watch the clip to know what he says just so I can be smarter than other people. But I think this movie is terribly overrated. So I’m not really concerned about changing any meaning, because it had none for me, apart from being the movie that finally got Bill Murray some credit… only to have daddy’s girl take it all anyway.
