When the credits rolled on THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM, I really got the impression that I was kissing that franchise goodbye. Didn’t you? Even with the markers that film left on the board, the series felt complete as a trilogy.
So imagine my surprise when I watched the trailer for this fourth film – one that positioned itself to reboot the franchise without Jason Bourne – and thought to myself “Damn. That actually looks…pretty cool!”
Is it really a reboot? I interpret it as more of a new story in the Bourne universe.
To-may-to, To-mah-to…
I’m actually quite excited after seeing this trailer. Originally, I was ticked off that they were making another film in the series not starring Matt Damon. But the idea of it being a legacy seems to make it work (at least in my mind). Plus, it looks like Renner will be about to hold down the Bourne fort well. He’s quite the action star lately, and I think he’ll do a nice job. As long as they don’t make him the next Ethan Hunt (and they said he wasn’t going to be), I think I’m OK with him being Jason Bourne.
As a fan of the Bourne films, I’m excited myself. They are just the sort of intelligent action films I go for, and knowing we might be getting a few more of them is good news.
Renner is slowly turning into the sort of actor who will get me into a film just because he’s in it. Of course, I do wonder how he’s going to have time to do anything else but Bourne movies and M:I movies going forward.
