I have to tip my cap to Walt Disney Animation.
Midway through this trailer, when we see the graphic that says “From The Creators of WRECK-IT-RALPH and FROZEN”, many of us find ourselves with a jolt of excitement. It’s been ages since the Mouse House brought upon that sort of anticipation…heck, it’s probably been close to twenty years.
I’m not sure what sort of walkabout the studio heads took, or what sort of soul-searching it brought upon in them, but clearly it worked as this glimpse of what’s next for them looks delightful – if not slightly reminiscent of the first teaser for THE INCREDIBLES.
It looks absolutely adorbs. I think we’re ready for another animated superhero story. Yaay!
I don’t use the term “adorbs” often enough.
I also immediately thought of the Incredibles teaser when watching this one. I’m still really looking forward to it though. I’m curious where it goes, even though it is a Marvel movie, it has a very anime feel with the mecha hero at the forefront, and I believe it takes place in Tokyo as well based on an earlier poster.
As for the question in the title, Marvel has made several direct-to-DVD animated movies through the years, though most have been fairly mediocre. I was fond of the Thor tie-in Tales of Asgard which showed Thor and Loki as young kids.
“Marvel-meets-mecha…”
It’s things like that which get me encouraged by the marriage of marvel and Disney; the way each one is able to spur the other into new directions.
Here’s hoping we’re in for good times!
