I don’t usually post trailers on Tuesday, but I’m a little out of sorts this week and need a few more days to work on more original content. I’m not sure how many people realize that I even have a schedule…but to those that do, I hope you don’t mind the change in the schedule.
This trailer dropped recently, and it’s been interesting to listen to the reaction it has garnered. As you may or may not know that I tend not too react all that heavily to trailers, so I can’t say that I have that big of an opinion one way or the other. I am curious about all the chatter that claims that this clip makes things seem like Pixar has gone and created a Dreamworks film…because I don’t really see that. I do see parallel to HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON, but for me, that movie never felt like the prototypical “Dreamworks film”
I remain excited for this film, and considering that Pixar’s last film left me only lukewarm, I completely see this a step back in the right direction.
I’m thinking this may be our first adventure with Mia in a movie theater. She’ll be 3 and a half by then, but probably not any more calm.
One can always hope for offspring serenity, at the very least so that mom and dad can enjoy the movie.
I blogged about by excitement for this film last week (and also in 2009, back when it was called The Bear and the Bow), but suffice to say I’m already in the theater waiting for the presentation to start so to speak. Pixar, I think, has a pretty sterling track record with female characters, so their first female protagonist should be something of a slam dunk (though I’d argue that Helen is almost more central to the events of The Incredibles than Bob); that Merida’s a princess actually makes her story more compelling, I think. I’m very curious to see where they go with the story/character archetype– looks very much like a story about a young woman trying to fight against preconceived notions forced upon her by way of gender roles and tradition.
It’s a funny thing isn’t it? Even though stories of princesses from days of yore feels like they’ve been told to death, we’ve never heard Pixar tell one. So I’m with you – there’s a lot to look forward to with this project.
