Ryan McNeilThe end of the summer is a gloomy place movie-wise. Hollywood has turned it into one of those self-fulfilling prophecies of “nobody goes, so we don’t release anything good”. Once in a very blue moon, a wide August release will turn out to be something good…but more often than not, less so.
So while I try to remain ever-optimistic, when it comes to August, all bets are off.
So what are we to make of this latest Eisenberg vehicle? Any chance it rekindles what we dug about the guy in ZOMBIELAND or ADVENTURELAND? Or is this a spiritual sequel to 30 MINUTES OR LESS?
…I mean, Kristen Stewart wouldn’t take part in something crappy would she?
I love it when nerdy actors do action-y roles. I mean, Scott Pilgrim is one of my favourite movies of all time. This looks like fun!
Also, I am happy to see Topher Grace still getting roles.
You raise a good point, especially since Eisenberg seems *so* serious in his off-camera demeanour. Good to see the would-be Lex have a little fun!
I had been waiting for their team-up movie since I’ve heard of it, but it’s largely because of my love for Adventureland. The movie looks fun, I’m hoping it’s good.
Funny story: Adventureland might be the film that’s grown the most in my eyes since I started keeping this site. I wasn’t all that nuts about it when I first watched it (you could dig up my review if you want proof), but several rewatches have really upped the ante on what I take from it.
