Is there a better story of someone’s luck changing than that of David O. Russell?
As you may or may not recall, just under ten years the man couldn’t buy a break. His films were pointed but made no money, he got a reputation for being hard to work with, and a video of him getting into a yelling match on set “mysteriously” leaked. The icing on the cake was NAILED – his last original screenplay – which halted production four times over in 2008 before eventually being scuttled entirely.
Then came THE FIGHTER, the first time he played “hired gun” for a script that wasn’t his own. The film gets raves, and earns two of his actors Oscars. That’s followed with SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK, another hired gun role – though this time with O. Russell adapting the screenplay. Again, the film gets raves, and lands an actor an Oscar.
Which brings us to today’s trailer – one that has many movie fans frothing at the mouth with anticipation considering that it looks so damned fun, and combines the casts of those last two incredible films.
In Hollywood, your luck can turn just that quickly…
I’m super duper excited for this. And god, Amy Adams needs that Oscar already.
Any other year she would have taken it for THE MASTER, but unfortunately she was at the mercy of Hurricane Hathaway.
She does! She keeps good company, I’m sure it’s in the stars for her.
This looks awesome. Amy Adams… HOT DAMN!!!!
Got to see this trailer on a big screen this weekend – and now my anticipation is at a fever pitch.
I’m a sucker for great casts with strong directors, and while he and Lily Tomlin seemed to hate each other, it seems that he’s found a dream team in Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper, and Christian Bale (who is also known for his volatility on set, so perhaps they bond over that!). This movie makes me tingle, I can’t wait to see it. If it’s not a name being thrown around come Oscar season, I’d be shocked. JLaw is my favourite ever, and Bradley Cooper went from being one of the actors I respect the least to one I respect the most, so I’m glad he’s continuing his “serious film” upswing.
