Had I realized that Andrea Arnold’s new film was scheduled to arrive this year, I might have skipped over WUTHERING HEIGHTS as my selection for her work in the 52 Films by Women Series. I mean, it’s not like I came away from that film wanting or anything, but every opportunity I have to see one of these women’s work in a theatre, I’m jumping at it.
Then again, the film doesn’t have a release date just yet…so for all I knew, I could have been waiting until 2017.
I’m still digging through Arnold’s filmography, but what I’ve seen so far I like. She doesn’t spell things out for the audience, and trusts us to go beyond just what characters are saying and pay attention to how it is being said.
Ordinarily, I might be wary of a film that involves Shia LaBeouf…but then again, considering how much I loved NYMPHOMANIC, perhaps he isn’t the cautionary sign I think he is.
